ITINERARY:

DAY 1:

Your holiday begins as you fly to Guatemala City, where upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in the former colonial capital city of Antigua.

DAY 2:

Enjoy a walking tour of Antigua to to explore the city and orientate yourself whilst visiting some of the sites that remain from the Spanish Colonial times.

DAY 3:

Day at leisure. Options to visit a coffee or macadamia plantation, a local weaving co-operative, climb Pacaya Volcano or try out some thrilling white-water rafting or zip-lining.

DAY 4:

Travel over to Panajachel, located on the shores of the picturesque Lake Atitlán. En route enjoy a stop-off to visit a bustling local market at either Chichicastenango or Sololá.

DAY 5:

Enjoy a boat trip out over the lake to visit one of the local communities, where you can earn about their customs and traditions in this beautiful part of the world.

DAY 6:

Day at leisure. Options for hiking, zip-lining, fishing, some horse-back riding, or alternatively wander the town of Panajachel to browse the local shops for souvenirs.

DAY 7:

Morning at leisure. In the afternoon transfer to Guatemala City, visiting the Maya ruins at Iximché en route.

DAY 8:

Drive to the border with neighbouring Honduras and continue on to the small town of Copán Ruinas.

DAY 9:

Enjoy a guided tour around the Maya ruins of Copán, a sister city to Guatemala’s Tikal. Copán is famous for its hieroglyphic staircase and was occupied for more than 2,000 years.

DAY 10:

Travel back into Guatemala and turn west towards the Caribbean coast. Visit the Quirigua Maya ruins en route to Livingston, which is only accessible by boat.

DAY 11:

Day at leisure in Livingston, where you will have time to get under the skin of this largely Garifuna town. Livingston is often referred to as ‘Buga’ (Mouth) in relation to its position on the Rio Dulce.

DAY 12:

Travel by boat down the Rio Dulce, visiting a local community  and the San Felipe Spanish fort. Back on dry land travel up to the Tikal National Park, site of the largest set of Maya ruins yet discovered.

DAY 13:

Enjoy a guided tour of the amazing Maya ruins at Tikal. It’s possible to climb some of the pyramids to look out over the tops of other temples and pyramids poking out from the tree-tops.

DAY 14:

Option for an early-morning Sunrise Tour of the ruins at Tikal, before your transfer to the nearby airport at Flores for a quick one-hour flight back to Guatemala City, ahead of your flight home.
