Options to go hiking in the local area or up one of the volcanoes, do some zip-lining, go fishing, do some horse-back riding, or wander the small town of Panajachel looking for souvenirs.
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon transfer to Guatemala City, visiting the Maya ruins at Iximché en route.
Drive to the border with Honduras and on to the small town of Copán Ruinas.
Enjoy a guided tour around the Maya ruins of Copán, a sister city to Tikal and famous for its hieroglyphic staircase.
Travel back into Guatemala and turn west towards the Caribbean coast. Visit the Quirigua Maya ruins en route - renown for its stelae - and on to Livingston, only accessible by boat.
Day at leisure in Livingston - time to get under the skin of this Garifuna town.
Travel by boat down the scenic Rio Dulce, visiting a community project and the San Felipe Spanish fort standing guard against English pirates. Back on dry land travel up to the Tikal National Park, site of the largest set of Maya ruins yet discovered.
